Beeslack and Penicuik High School pupils experience some traditional construction skills

13th March 2020

Pupils from Beeslack and Penicuik High School were given the opportunity to gain some hands on experience of some traditional construction skills over the last two days.

45 pupils from each school took up the challenge. Edinburgh College tutors , experts in stone masonry, roofing and sign writing and marbling went into the schools to give demonstrations of their trades and pupils were able to have a go, dressed appropriately and with personal protective equipment , ie over suits, googles, steel capped shoes and face masks. The equipment was supplied and delivered by the Edinburgh Traditional Building Forum .

Feedback has been very positive both from the pupils and the teachers. Those pupils who are particularly interested can take the next step of being able to attend stone and roof repair workshops at Edinburgh College’s Granton Campus in May .
