Engagement Event with Pupils from Cornbank St James Primary School

25th March 2019

As part of the Penicuik Heritage Regeneration Project an engagement event was held with the children of Cornbank St James Primary School in Penicuik . The event was related to the Penicuik High Street improvement work.  The Contractor for the scheme NRS Engineering, along with team members from the Heritage Regeneration project went to the school to carry out some project work with P1 and P6 pupils.

Since the event was related to the street engineering works, the projects had an engineering and history/heritage theme.  Pupils were able to look at old maps and photographs of Penicuik and compare them with the town today and talk about how the town had grown and developed.  They were able to build bridges with tape and wooden sticks, erect logo structures on the plan of the street works and to look at engineering instruments that are used today to plan and implement construction projects.  They were able to wear hat hats and hi-viz vests to help them get into engineering mode!  The event was held over a school day with sessions in the morning and afternoon and was enjoyed by everyone involved!
