St Mungo’s Churchyard Condition Report and Cost Plan

21st October 2020

The conservation architects Simpson and Brown and Quantity Surveyor Kenneth Ferguson have very kindly donated their time free of charge to produce a Condition Report and Cost Plan on the structures in the churchyard. This includes, The Hearse House, St Kentigern’s Church Tower and walls , The Clerk Family Mausoleum and the churchyard stone boundary walls .

All these structures are deteriorating and urgently require repair and restoration . The Penicuik Heritage Regeneration Project Team at their meeting on the 6th October 2020 agreed to set up a working group with representatives from local organisations to plan a way forward to access possible funding to tackle these structures . The group will also look at an Interpretative Strategy for Penicuik to investigate a heritage trail to promote the unique history and heritage of the town centre.
