Churchyard: Condition Survey

Churchyard: Condition Survey

Ewan Lawson, a conservation architect from Simpson and Brown architects in Edinburgh, and Kenneth Ferguson, a quantity surveyor with many years experience in historic building repair and restoration, volunteered two days of their time to assist the Penicuik Heritage Regeneration Project.

They have been carrying out a visual survey of the buildings in the churchyard. These include St Kentigern’s church tower and walls , the Clerk family mausoleum and the hearse house. This is being carried out to assess their condition and to do some cost estimates for their repair. It is hoped that this could then form the basis of a conservation plan and grant applications for resources to carry out the repairs to both the buildings and stone boundary walls .
