Penicuik High School students undertake on site training

30th June 2023

Six students from Penicuik High School undertook the on site training at St Mungo’s churchyard , Penicuik ,the week beginning the 19th June . The week before six students from Beeslack School tried their hand and did a great job repairing and restoring sections of the stone boundary walls to the churchyard , raking out old and decayed mortar and repointing in a traditional lime mortar . Craig Frew Conservation Ltd planned and delivered the training for the PHRP , providing expert stone masons and lime specialists who guided and supervised the students . The feedback from both weeks has been very positive with the students enjoying the challenge and gaining an understanding of traditional stone wall repair .

A big thanks again to the staff at St Mungo’s Church for the opportunity to have the church hall available for the students welfare facilities , right opposite the churchyard .
