Scaffolding comes down on 2-4 West Street Penicuik

The scaffolding has now been taken down on 2-4 West Street revealing the restoration work that has been carried out as part of the PHRP historic building grant scheme.The work comprised stone repair and repointing in a lime mortar, roof repairs and reslating including lead work , chimney repairs and all the rain water goods overhauled. The rear elevation has been re rendered and painted and all the existing historic timber sash and case windows and panelled doors have been repaired and repainted . This work has given the building a new lease of life, ensuring that it continues to be an important part of Penicuik’s built heritage for the future.

2-4 West Street is a category C listed building , built in 1916 as the Council Chambers and designed in the Scottish Baronial style .It is now the home of the Belgian Consulate and the Penicuik Arts Association
